Firm vs Soft Mattress
Choose firmness using sleep position, body weight and preference instead of labels alone.
Firmness describes how resistant the sleep surface feels. It is not the same thing as support, and the same mattress can feel different to two people.
Body weight changes perception
A heavier sleeper compresses layers more deeply. A lighter sleeper generally experiences the same construction as firmer.
Position matters
Side sleepers often need more surface give at the shoulder and hip, while stomach sleepers frequently need more resistance through the midsection.
Do not chase a number
Use firmness scales as a comparison tool, then check trial terms so you have a practical way to validate comfort at home.
